LameTeX is a direct PostScript generator for a (very limited) subset of LaTeX. One of its original design goals, the inclusion of PostScript commands directly in a LaTeX document, has been superseded by PSTricks. However, one of the side effects of a special-purpose translator for LaTeX is the ability of that translator to produce different kinds of output, including plain ASCII.
The system only understands a subset of LaTeX, and is not set up to use Type 1 fonts; however, it is capable of doing some interesting tricks.
